…a detective with the police told her there was an attempted theft of her car. Despite her misgivings, DaRonch went with the man and got into his car. tried to restrain her with handcuffs and hit her with a crowbar, but she fought back and jumped out of the car to safety.

DaRonch’s story was of special interest to the authorities who were trying to figure out what had happened to several young women who disappeared earlier in the fall. At the same time, Seattle officials were looking for a man named Ted who was the suspect in some murder cases.
